Snow Squall, Winter Travel Warnings in effect for Southern Ontario with up to 25 cm of snow expected:
The snow squall warnings come just days after the same area was slammed by up to 80 centimetres of snow last week.
Rapidly accumulating and blowing snow may cause hazardous driving conditions for areas east of Lake Huron and in the region from Barrie to Collingwood.
More snow is on the way Wednesday for parts of southern Ontario as warnings for incoming squalls and hazardous travel conditions have been issued by Environment Canada
Areas near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are mainly impacted by the weather alerts due to lake-effect snow, according to the national weather agency.
Snow squall warnings are in effect for areas east of Lake Huron near London, Goderich and Watford, where the weather agency predicts an accumulation of 15 to 25 centimetres of snow by Wednesday evening.
Higher amounts of snowfall are possible if the forecast snow squalls become stationary over one area, Environment Canada says.
A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Owen Sound and St. Thomas where 10 to 20 centimetres of snow are expected overnight through to Wednesday evening.
Environment Canada warns drivers that travel may be hazardous due to reduced visibility from blowing and rapidly accumulating snow that could deteriorate road conditions.
“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve,” Environment Canada said in the winter weather travel advisories.
Public transit may also be affected by large amounts of snowfall. GO Transit buses along the Barrie line may experience service interruptions, and travellers are suggested to check gotransit.com to help plan their trip.
Last week, several snow squall warnings were in effect for the same southern Ontario regions near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, with some areas seeing up to 80 centimetres of snow. The previous snow squall warnings for areas north of Toronto lifted on Sunday after days of accumulating snow.

While Toronto and areas surrounding the city are not included in the weather alerts, sub-zero temperatures and cloudy conditions are in the forecast.
There was a 40 per cent chance of flurries for Tuesday evening and a low of -19 C overnight.
On Wednesday morning, -7 C temperatures are expected to feel like -20 C with the chill of the wind, forecast to gust up to 40 km/h, under cloudy skies.
The temperature is expected to drop to -12 C on Wednesday evening, with a wind chill of -14 C, and then colder overnight at -19 C.

Doug Ford boosts Ontario’s Border Security amid Donald Trump tariff threat:
The premier’s comments come as the U.S. president-elect is vowing to slap levies on Canadian and Mexican products after his Jan. 20 inauguration unless America’s neighbours curb illegal immigration and fentanyl smuggling.
As Donald Trump threatens 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods unless the border with the U.S. is strengthened, Premier Doug Ford is enhancing security on the frontier.
“Ontario has been calling on the federal government to step up and address safety and security concerns at the border. We need to see words turned into visible action,” Ford said Tuesday.
The premier’s comments come as the U.S. president-elect is vowing to slap levies on Canadian and Mexican products after his Jan. 20 inauguration unless America’s neighbours curb illegal immigration and fentanyl smuggling.
“Ontario is stepping up with Operation Deterrence to crack down on illegal border crossings and illegal guns and drugs,” said Ford, imploring Ottawa to also do more.
“A more co-ordinated Team Canada approach that includes more boots on the ground is the only way to detect, deter and disrupt illegal activity and ensure the safety and security of Canadian and American communities.”
Ford will meet virtually with the other premiers Wednesday afternoon to further discuss steps to mitigate Trump’s gambit.
Operation Deterrence includes 200 Ontario Provincial Police officers, who are working in partnership with the RCMP.
In the past five weeks, the OPP has already done more than 6,000 hours of “focused patrols to deter, detect and disrupt illegal border activity using fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, remotely piloted aircraft, boats, off-road vehicles, patrol vehicles and foot patrol,” the province said.
As well, the government said “Operation Deterrence activity will be enhanced through the use of the emergency response team, front-line officer and additional specialty resources, including canine units, commercial motor vehicle inspections and criminal investigators.”
The initiative is above and beyond what is already being done at Ontario’s 14 official U.S. border crossings by the Canada Border Services Agency.
In the wake of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announcing his resignation Monday, Ford has been imploring Ottawa to remain focused on the Trump tariff threat.
Speaking to reporters after Trudeau told the nation he would prorogue Parliament and step down after nine years as prime minister, the premier said the federal uncertainty is troubling.
“We need all hands on deck. We need the prime minister to continue doing his job. Prorogation doesn’t mean vacation,” said Ford.
“God forbid president-elect Trump gets in there and puts tariffs. We have to retaliate. We have to retaliate hard against our friends south of the border, which is unfortunate.”
Since the incoming president’s Nov. 25 tariff threat against Canada and Mexico, Ford, who is chair of the premiers’ Council of the Federation, has been more aggressive than Trudeau or any federal leader.
On Dec. 18, the premier warned Ontario could cut off electricity exports flowing stateside in retaliation for any tariffs on trade.
With Trump repeatedly trolling Canadians on social media about annexing this country as a “51st state” and referring to the prime minister as the “governor of the great state of Canada,” Ford stressed that joke isn’t funny.
“To the president, I’ll make him a counteroffer. How about if we buy Alaska and we’ll throw in Minnesota or Minneapolis at the same time,” the premier said Monday.
“It’s not realistic. I know he likes to make these comments, he likes joking around, (but) I take that seriously,” he said.
“He may be joking, but under my watch, that will never, ever happen.”

Shortly before Milton Friedman's death in 2006, I had the privilege of interviewing him over dinner in San Francisco. The last question I asked him was: What are the three things we have to do to make America more prosperous?
His answer I have never forgotten: "First, allow universal school choice; second, expand free trade; third and most importantly, cut government spending." That was long before Barack Obama and Joe Biden came along.
There aren't too many problems in America that can't be traced back to the growth of big and incompetent government.
It is notable that the two big bursts of inflation during modern times both occurred when government spending exploded. The first was the gigantic expansion of the Lyndon B. Johnson "war on poverty" welfare state in the 1970s with prices nearly doubling. Second was the post-COVID-19 spending blitz in the last year of Donald Trump's first term, followed by the Biden $6 trillion spending spree, with the Consumer Price Index sprinting from 1.5% to 9.1%.
Coincidence? Maybe. But I doubt it.
The connection between government flab and the decline in the purchasing power of the dollar is obvious. In both cases the Washington spending blitz was funded by Federal Reserve money printing. The helicopter money caused prices to surge. (I still find it laughable that 11 Nobel Prize-winning economists wrote in the New York Times in 2021 that the Biden multitrillion-dollar spending spree wouldn't cause inflation. Were they on hallucinogenic drugs?)
The avalanche of federal spending hasn't stopped even though the COVID-19 pandemic ended over a year ago. We are three months into the 2025 fiscal year and on pace to spend an all-time-high $7 trillion and borrow $2 trillion. If we stay on this course, the federal budget could reach $10 trillion over the next decade.
This road to financial perdition cannot stand. It risks blowing up the Trump presidency.
Upon entering office, Trump should on day one call for a package of up to $500 billion of rescissions -- money the last Congress appropriated but has not been spent yet. Canceling the green energy subsidies alone could save nearly $100 billion. Why are we still spending money on COVID-19?
We could save tens of billions of dollars by ending corporate welfare programs -- such as the wheelbarrows full of tax dollars thrown at companies like Intel in the CHIPS Act. The Elon Musk Department of Government Efficiency is already identifying low-hanging fruit that needs to be cut from the tree.
Along with extending the Trump tax cut of 2017, this erasure of bloated federal spending is critical for economic revival and for reversing the income losses to the middle class under Biden.
This is especially urgent because the curse of inflation is NOT over. Since the Fed started cutting interest rates in October, commodity prices are up nearly 5%, and mortgage rates have again hit 7%, in part because the combination of cheap money and government expansion is a toxic economic brew -- as history teaches us.
Nothing could suck the oxygen and excitement out of the new Trump presidency more than a resumption of inflation at the grocery store and the gas pump. Trump's record-high approval rating will sink overnight if the cost of everything starts rising again.
Cutting spending won't be easy. The resistance won't just come from Bernie Sanders Democrats. He will have to convince lawmakers in his own party -- many of whom are already defending Green New Deal pork projects in their districts.
Trump should borrow a line from Nancy Reagan: Just say no -- to runaway government spending. Say yes to what Friedman titled his famous book: "Capitalism and Freedom."

Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-MD) recently went on Politicon’s Highly Conflicted podcast and made a statement that stunned even some left-wing observers.
Democrats now say they will fight the politicization of the DOJ
Raskin’s comment was that Democrats will oppose any effort by Donald Trump to politicize the Department of Justice.
You could hear the laughter echo throughout the halls of the DOJ.
Of course, the comment was in response to a clear set up question by the podcast’s host, Hugo Lowell.
“What are the oversight tools that House Democrats on the Judiciary Committee have going into this next Congress as they conduct oversight over the Trump DOJ? What are the biggest concerns you have when it comes to how Trump might use the DOJ for his personal ends?”
Raskin wasted no time in responding with a flat out lie about the DOJ and Democrat control over it.
“Well, the Department of Justice traditionally has enjoyed institutional independence from the office of the president. The president has not ordered investigations into specific individuals or terminated investigations into others,” Raskin began, already ignoring the efforts of Biden and Obama to target Ron Paul, Donald Trump, and their supporters.
Raskin continued, “That principle was, of course, tested during Donald Trump’s first presidential administration.
He seemed to want to treat the Department of Justice as a mere adjunct of his own presidency, under the unitary executive theory.” And then Raskin said the words that had all of Washington, D.C. laughing hysterically.

“We are going to try to defend the principle of the independent integrity of the law enforcement function under the Department of Justice. We will resist and oppose any efforts to politicize the department so that it goes after the president’s enemies, in the current parlance, or goes easy on his friends. That is simply not how the rule of law works, and it directly undercuts more than two centuries of understanding about how the United States government operates,” Raskin said.
Of course, he completely left out the part about Obama’s DOJ targeting and prosecuting three top staffers of former Presidential candidate Ron Paul.
And the blatant attempts by Biden’s DOJ to destroy Donald Trump and his supporters.
Instead Raskin made the bizarre claim that the DOJ is not partisan.
“We are going to stand very strong for the idea that the rule of law is not subordinate to partisanship. The president of the United States, under Article II of the Constitution, has the job to take care that the laws are faithfully executed. That is the opposite of the president choosing winners and losers in the justice process.
The president’s job is to ensure the laws are faithfully executed. That, of course, is the defining mission of the Department of Justice.”
Well, it was the mission of the DOJ until Barack Obama and then Joe Biden turned the DOJ into the state police force for the Democrats and their allies.

Judge refuses to postpone Trump's sentencing in New York case:
Trump is scheduled to face sentencing days ahead of his inauguration.
Judge Juan Merchan rejected President-elect Donald Trump's motion to delay sentencing in the New York criminal case where he was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records.
Merchan wrote on Monday, "Defendant's motion for a stay of these proceedings, including the sentencing hearing scheduled for January 10, 2025, is hereby DENIED."
'Trump's legal team moved to stop the unlawful sentencing.'
The judge announced the date late last week, stating that sentencing Trump after completing his second term would be "less desirable than imposing sentence prior to January 20, 2025."
Trump was initially slated to face sentencing in July, but the date was repeatedly delayed due to the Supreme Court's ruling on presidential immunity and Trump's November election win.
On Monday, Trump's attorneys, Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, filed a motion to delay the sentencing date, arguing that they planned to appeal Merchan's decision to reject their request to dismiss the case.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office asked Merchan to reject Trump's request to delay sentencing.
Merchan wrote in his rejection, "This Court has considered Defendant's arguments in support of his motion and finds that they are for the most part, a repetition of the arguments he has raised numerous times in the past."
The judge indicated that Trump would not face jail time and would instead receive an "unconditional discharge" sentence.
Incoming White House communications director Steven Cheung told Fox Digital, "Today, President Trump's legal team moved to stop the unlawful sentencing in the Manhattan D.A.'s witch hunt. The Supreme Court's historic decision on immunity, the state constitution of New York, and other established legal precedent mandate that this meritless hoax be immediately dismissed."
"The American People elected President Trump with an overwhelming mandate that demands an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and all of the remaining witch hunts. We look forward to uniting our country in the new administration as President Trump makes America great again," Cheung added.
Trump addressed the New York case in a post on social media over the weekend.
"Ultimately, the Biden/Harris DOJ forced Bragg to concoct anything to embarrass TRUMP. But it was even more so what the CORRUPT and TOTALLY CONFLICTED POLITICAL HACK Judge did, and is doing, on this sham trial. I even have, STILL, an Unconstitutional Gag Order where I am not allowed to speak about the Judge's highly disqualifying Conflicts of Interest," Trump wrote.
"Virtually [every] legal scholar and pundit says THERE IS NO (ZERO!) CASE AGAINST ME," he continued. "The Judge fabricated the facts, and the law, no different than the other New York Judicial and Prosecutorial Witch Hunts. That's why businesses are fleeing New York, taking with them millions of jobs, and BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN TAXES. The legal system is broken, and businesses can't take a chance in getting caught up in this quicksand. IT'S ALL RIGGED, in this case against a political opponent, ME!!!"

Dehumanization and Diplomacy: Unveiling Hypocrisy in Conflict
This week, United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken stated, “Israelis were dehumanized in the most horrific way on October 7,” a statement few would contest. However, the Palestinian Authority and Hamas and their sponsors’ attempts to dehumanize and demonize and marginalize Israel and the Jewish nation is ongoing for many, many years.
And, Mr. Blinken, please do not tell us in what condition we are. You are not a psychiatrist.
Those who seek to dehumanize us only dishonor themselves. But Blinken was saying this, not because he is a self-proclaimed clinical psychologist or moralist, but to give himself the “license” to continue with his follow-on caution: “The October 7 attack does not grant Israel a license to dehumanize others.” Subsequently, Biden remarked that Israel’s response in Gaza is “over the top”. In my opinion, this was shoddy.
So, who exactly is dehumanizing and intentionally endangering and exposing to harm, the Palestinian people living as citizens under their Hamas Government in Gaza? Answer: Hamas. But the death toll is too high, I agree. We are painfully aware. It’s agonizing. Even if we know that the numbers are likely highly inflated – all honest countries and institutions know this. And it’s all on Hamas, who has the power to stop it immediately, simply by laying down their arms, surrendering, and releasing our children and others held and brutalized in cages in underground tunnels as I write this. This is not rocket science. I have not seen even one other workable option presented by anyone, including America; it’s either Hamas surrenders, or Israel surrenders.
President Biden, Blinken’s boss, should be aware; after all, he was VP under Obama during the Battle for Mosul (2016-2017) not that long ago; and Blinken was deputy secretary of state. It was an easier battle, fewer people, much fewer ISIS terrorists, a tiny tunnel network by comparison.

A coalition investigation concluded, in the case of a 500-pound (227-kilogram) bomb, which killed many civilians in a building, that it “appropriately balanced the military necessity of neutralizing (two IS) snipers. Thomas Veale, a coalition spokesperson, told the AP in response to questions about civilian deaths. “It is simply irresponsible to focus criticism on inadvertent casualties caused by the Coalition’s war to defeat ISIS. Without the Coalition’s air and ground campaign against ISIS, there would have inevitably been additional years, if not decades of suffering… at the hands of terrorists who lack any ethical or moral standards.”

California catching fire:
Traffic is deadlocked on the routes out and residents are abandoning their cars as they flee the wildfires, leaving authorities no option but to bulldoze expensive Teslas, Mercedes and BMWs blocking the streets.
Some 30,000 residents in Pacific Palisades and surrounds are now under mandatory evacuation orders, amid warnings there is an immediate threat to their lives.
Multiple wildfires are burning out of control in Los Angeles County, fanned by hurricane-strength wind gusts that showed no signs of letting up on Wednesday and may intensify in the hours ahead. The largest of the blazes, the Palisades Fire, broke out near the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in the Los Angeles Westside region on Tuesday morning. It has burned at least 5,000 acres and forced at least 30,000 people to evacuate.
While no fatalities have been reported in that fire, officials said Wednesday that two civilian deaths were reported in the Eaton Fire. That fire erupted to the northeast, near Pasadena, and grew quickly, more than doubling in size during early Wednesday. It has burned more than 2,000 acres, prompting evacuation orders for over 52,000 residents across the communities of Altadena, La Cañada Flintridge and parts of Glendale.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Presidents Donald J. Trump and Joe Biden told colleagues that he and the Department of Defense authorized use of directed-energy weapons against June 2020 rioters at Lafayette Park in Washington, D.C., a highly placed source told Blaze News.

Retired Gen. Mark A. Milley — who served as the 20th chairman of the Joint Chiefs from October 2019 through September 2023 — made the disclosure at a private gathering in October 2024, the source said.
“Milley told a small group in October of 2024, ‘We had directed-energy weapons at Lafayette Park in June 2020’ to be used against rioters,'” the source said.
According to Blaze News' source, who was present at the meeting, “In the full context of the discussion, I took that to mean that both Milley and then-Secretary of Defense Mark Esper had signed off on the use of those weapons.”
Esper, the 27th secretary of defense, was sworn in on July 23, 2019, and was fired by President Trump on Nov. 9, 2020. Blaze Media reached out to Esper for comment but did not get a reply by press time.
A spokesman for the U.S. Department of Defense referred any questions on the subject to now-retired Gen. Milley and the United States Northern Command. Capt. May Morales, media operations officer at U.S. Northern Command Public Affairs, told Blaze News: “USNORTHCOM does not have any information to offer on this matter.”
