Spring Evangelism!
Living in Canada, we experience the fullness of all the seasons.I’ve lived in a tropical climate, and while the constant sunshine is nice, there is something special about the changing of the seasons. Yes, our Canadian winters are long, and the cold and darkness can feel bleak at times. But there’s nothing like that first hint of spring—when the days get longer, the air feels warmer, and life seems to be returning all around us. In fact, all of nature begins to “resurrect" before our eyes.
As the Song of Solomon recounts:
“For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.” - Song of Solomon 2:11-12 (ESV)It’s no accident that Easter lands in the spring. As creation comes back to life, we celebrate the greatest resurrection of all—Christ rising from the dead!
After His resurrection, Jesus sent out His disciples as bold witnesses to proclaim the good news. In the same way, we can use Easter as a calendar marker for the start of Evangelism Season. With warmer weather, longer days, and more opportunities to engage with people, now is the time to step out and share the gospel.
Here are three reasons why spring and summer are Evangelism Season:
Our Energy is Back!
Winter is a natural time of hibernation. We slow down and get cozy indoors. We might feel more tired due to less vitamin D and physical activity. But as the sun comes back, so does our God-given energy. This renewed energy is one of His many gracious gifts to us that we can use for His glory! Just as nature awakens, so can our passion for sharing Christ. If you have been feeling spiritually sluggish, ask the Lord to restore the joy of your salvation (Psalm 51:12) and give you a fresh motivation to share the gospel.
People Are Out and Open to Conversations
One of the biggest barriers to evangelism in colder months is that people simply aren’t outside as much. My wife and I joke that we don’t see our neighbours all winter. But when the weather warms up, parks, sidewalks, and the community fill with people. We hear music playing in the neighbourhood. This makes it an ideal time to engage in casual conversations that can lead to eternal impact. Whether you're at a farmer's market, walking the dog, or with your kids at the park, you have opportunities all around you to share Christ.
The Season is Temporary
We know all too well that summer in Canada doesn’t last forever. Just as quickly as it arrives, the leaves will start changing again, and before we know it, winter will return. The opportunities we have now won’t always be available. Some people we encounter this summer may not be here next year. This should stir our hearts with urgency to make the most of this evangelism season.
How Can You Get Involved?
Here are some ways you can be part of the harvest this season:
Join a GO Team. If you’ve never participated in a Gospel Outreach (GO) Team before, just come and observe. You might be surprised by how natural gospel conversations can be. If you are unable to physically go, you can still play a vital role by supporting the evangelists in your church. Ask if they need gospel tracts, Bibles, or other resources. Offer to pray for them before and after their outreach efforts. You can even ask for a list of names of people they spoke with so you can pray for them by name.
Start a One-on-One Bible Reading. Pray and ask the Lord to show you someone in your life who might be open to reading the Bible with you. Pick a Gospel (Mark is a great one to start with) and go through it together. As you read, natural conversations will arise, giving you plenty of opportunities to share the gospel.Take our training. Ontario’s top court has ruled that provincial restrictions on gatherings that prohibited peaceful protests for several weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic were unconstitutional.
The Court of Appeal for Ontario made the finding today in a case brought by former Ontario legislator Randy Hillier, who faced several charges for organizing or hosting protests against pandemic measures while the rules were in effect in the spring of 2021.
Hillier appealed after the judge who heard his application found that while the limits on gatherings did infringe on his right to peaceful assembly, they were justified and therefore constitutional.
The three-judge appeal panel unanimously found that the application judge incorrectly applied the necessary legal test in coming to that conclusion.
The Appeal Court says the application judge looked at the impact of the restrictions broadly rather than on the right to peaceful assembly specifically.
It notes that while the province had made exceptions for other types of gatherings, such as weddings and funerals, the rules amounted to an “outright ban” on protests.
There is also no evidence that the province ever considered an exemption for outdoor political protests, the court wrote.
“Can the court, in assessing the state’s justification, countenance an outcome in which the state eliminates the free exercise of a fundamental freedom without giving that elimination any actual thought?” the ruling reads.
“Such an outcome would be entirely contrary to the purpose of the Charter in protecting the free exercise of fundamental freedoms against the limiting actions of government.”
The court has asked for submissions on possible remedies over the next few weeks.
The Ontario government tightened pandemic rules in April 2021 in response to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
The measures included a shutdown order that banned outdoor gatherings of more than five people, closely followed by an order requiring everyone to stay at home except for certain types of gatherings, such as weddings and funerals.
The stay-at-home order didn’t allow people to go out for peaceful protests, the court said. The shutdown order was soon amended to prohibit all outdoor gatherings except for weddings, funerals, religious services and people living alone meeting with other households, again with no exemption for protests, it said.
In late May 2021, the shutdown order once again allowed outdoor gatherings of up to five people, but still with no exception for protests, it said.
The stay-at-home order expired in early June of that year, while the shutdown order was extended until its expiry in March 2022, the court said.
The limits deemed unconstitutional were those in effect between April 17 and May 22, 2021.

Why is a Red Wave washing over la belle Province?
Hi, I’m Eric Andrew-Gee, The Globe’s Quebec correspondent, based in Montreal.
I knew something was changing in Quebec when I saw a Canadian flag hanging from a balcony in my neighbourhood.
The eastern part of the Plateau, where I live, is historically a working-class francophone stronghold of the independence movement. Gilles Duceppe, the long-time leader of the Bloc Québécois, was the local MP for more than two decades. Now the area is heavily populated by immigrants from France, with some of the best baguettes this side of Paris. All in all, not a traditional hotbed of Canadian nationalism.
Donald Trump’s trade war and threats of annexation have deeply shaken the province, though. The U.S. President’s 25-per-cent tariff on aluminum has rattled a key Quebec industry, while talk of making Canada the 51st state has repelled even those who have previously supported separatism.
As I wrote for The Globe in March, Quebec has experienced a surge in identification with the Rest of Canada and draped itself, temporarily at least, in the Maple Leaf. Support for separation is near an all-time low, and Quebeckers today are more likely to tell pollsters they are proud to be Canadian than Albertans are, a dramatic reversal even from last summer.
That sea change has defined the federal election campaign in Quebec.
Even more voters in the province say Trump is their defining ballot-box issue than in the rest of the country. And like in Ontario, B.C. and Atlantic Canada, the Trump effect has translated into huge polling gains for the Liberals in Quebec.
Since Justin Trudeau’s announcement in January that he would step down as prime minister, and Mark Carney’s election as Liberal Leader in March, the party has gone from third place to a commanding first in la belle province.
Voters here have decided that Carney’s experience as a central banker and financier make him better suited to managing the continuing economic crisis than Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, a career politician whose affect and policies remind some Canadians uncomfortably of the glowering occupant of the White House.
The Bloc, too, has been undercut by the shift in focus to Canada-U.S. relations.
The sovereigntist party’s traditional emphasis on defending Quebec interests against the indifference and hostility of the federal government has failed to gain traction in a campaign where Quebeckers see the menace coming from Washington rather than Ottawa.
That has led Bloc leader Yves-François Blanchet to plead fruitlessly for a “normal” race, as I described in a story last week – his party is hovering around 20 per cent in opinion polls, while the Liberals reach toward 50 per cent.
All of this despite the fact that Carney has run a decidedly uninspired campaign in Quebec so far.
His shaky French became evident during the Liberal leadership contest and has continued to hobble him on the stump; francophone reporters sometimes wonder whether he has fully understood their questions during press conferences.
Those linguistic shortcomings, and a lifetime spent in Edmonton, Boston, New York, Ottawa and London – just about everywhere in the Atlantic Triangle except for Quebec – have led to a series of gaffes while campaigning in Quebec.

The 1989 Polytechnique massacre was a defining moment for many Quebeckers. So, it was a major flub when Carney recently misidentified the name of the school and the name of a survivor, who is also a Liberal candidate, during a campaign speech.
He turned down an invitation to a second French-language debate on the influential TVA network, the only party leader to do so, scuttling the event.
One of his party’s flagship policies on homebuilding was awkwardly translated into French, prompting online mockery.
As I outlined in another piece in late March – and to the enormous frustration of his opponents – none of it has really mattered for the Liberals.
Quebeckers seem ready to cut Carney an unusual amount of slack for his halting French and shallow knowledge of the province. Even some Bloc voters are planning to cast their ballot for the traditional red-and-white federalist adversary this time around.
The Liberals may have had Quebec in the bag the moment a Canadian flag appeared on that balcony in the Plateau.

New Numbers Show Over Five Million Names Cleaned from Voter Rolls Nationwide:
(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that its analysis and use of voter registration lists has led to lawsuits and legal actions under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) that have resulted in the removal of five million names from voter rolls in nearly a dozen states and localities over the last several years.
Recently, the Commonwealth of Kentucky reported that 735,000 ineligible voter registrations have been removed from its voter rolls since 2019 by the State Board of Elections as part of its 2018 consent decree settling a lawsuit by Judicial Watch.
As part of its 2022 settlement, New York City alone has removed 918,139 ineligible names from its rolls: recent data show 477,056 removals between March 2023 and February 2025, which is in addition to the 441,083 previously reported removals.
These latest developments come as a result of Judicial Watch’s 2017 lawsuit against Kentucky under the NVRA (Judicial Watch, Inc. and the United States of America v. Alison Lundergan Grimes, et al. (No. 3:17-cv-00094)) and its 2022 lawsuit against New York City that pointed out that it had removed only 22 names under the federal law over six years (Judicial Watch v Valentine et al. (No.1:22-cv-03952)).
In 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court confirmed that such removals are mandatory.
In May 2022, Los Angeles County confirmed the removal of 1.2 million ineligible names from its rolls as part of a settlement in a federal lawsuit Judicial Watch filed in 2017. (Legal pressure from Judicial Watch ultimately has led to the removal of ineligible names from voter rolls in New York, California, Pennsylvania, Colorado, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Ohio.)
Other voter roll clean-up lawsuits by Judicial Watch continue in Illinois, Oregon, and California.
“Judicial Watch’s clean-up of over five million dirty names from voter rolls is a historic achievement for clean elections. I have no doubt that Judicial Watch’s election integrity heavy lifting helped stop the steal in 2024,” stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “But there are millions of more names to be removed from voting rolls, which is why we are in federal court in three states.”
Judicial Watch is a national leader in voting integrity and voting rights.
Recently, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit declined to rehear its previous ruling in which it agreed with Judicial Watch that it was unlawful for Mississippi to count ballots that arrived after Election Day.
Judicial Watch in March 2025 filed a federal lawsuit against California on behalf of U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa to prevent state election officials from extending Election Day for seven days beyond the date established by federal law. California counts ballots received up to seven days after Election Day.
Also in March, Judicial Watch sent a notice letter to Lt. Governor Deidre M. Henderson, notifying her that Utah is currently in violation of the NVRA’s public disclosure requirements. The notice letter warns of a lawsuit after 90 days if the issues are not resolved.
