Italy under Giorgia Meloni joined Hungary, Croatia, and other European countries in resisting a new pro-LGBT EU statement pushing for so-called ‘inclusive policies’ that promote homosexuality and transgenderism.
(LifeSiteNews) — On May 17, the European Union released a statement by the High Representative on behalf of the EU for the so-called “International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia.” It was a declaration of the new Western values, calling on countries everywhere to “focus on fighting inequalities and multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination” to ensure that “justice” will “apply to everyone regardless of their actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity.”
The EU further declared that:
On IDAHOT Day, and every day, we call on governments around the world to repeal discriminatory legislation, take action to tackle and eliminate hate crimes and hate speech, prevent all forms of violence against LGBTI persons [sic], and tackle structural and institutional barriers and biases that still limit the participation of LGBTI persons [sic] in decision-making and political processes… The EU continues to work with partners on inclusive laws and policies.
At this point, internationally recognized “LGBT awareness periods” occupy much of the calendar year, making up a sort of post-Christian liturgical cycle. May 19 is “Agender Pride Day”; April 6 is “International Asexuality Day” (in which everyone presumably leaves each other alone); September 16-22 is “Bisexual Awareness Week,” followed by “Celebrate Bisexuality Day” on September 23; October 17-24 is “Genderfluid Visibility Week,” and July 19 is “Drag Day.” There are 26 internationally recognized “LGBT awareness” days (or weeks), with some countries having plenty of domestic days as well. Canada has moved from a four-week “Pride Month” to a four-month “Pride Season.” Federally funded, of course.
Notably, not all EU countries signed off on the recent declaration of fealty and obeisance to the LGBT agenda. Nine countries refused to sign, including more conservative countries such as Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia, and Lithuania, but also Slovakia, the Czech Republic and, most surprisingly, Italy. The decision provoked fury amongst Italian LGBT activists and left-wing politicians, who launched protests against the Meloni government over the decision. (Press reports referred to these protests as “widespread,” but this seems to be an exaggeration intended to pressure the government rather than a report on reality.)
The declaration, although non-binding, was significant, as it was essentially a promise from the signatory states to, as one outlet noted, work on “implementing national strategies for LGBTQ+ people [sic] and appointing a new EU Commissioner for Equality following the upcoming EU parliamentary elections.” The declaration is, undoubtedly, a coup for the LGBT activists in Brussels, and thus the dissident countries faced enormous opprobrium. Family Minister Eugene Rocella, however, defended her government’s position in an interview with Il Messaggero.
Rocella stated that everyone can choose who to “have sexual relations with.” “But the freedom to ‘be who you want to be’ advocated in the document is an ideological constraint and a denial of reality because the reality of the body and sexual affiliation cannot be changed to the end,” she added. In short, Meloni’s government has realized what other politicians have been slower to identify – that the LGBT movement is demanding that even biological boundaries be eliminated in law.
“I think the so-called gender binarism should continue to apply: There are women, and there are men,” Rocella noted. “We want to preserve the anthropology on which parenthood and the continuity of humanity are based because if you abolish men and women, parenthood also changes, and you shouldn’t be surprised if no more children are conceived.” While Rocella stated that the Meloni government has no problem with people getting “sex change” surgeries if they choose, they are not willing to accept gender ideology wholesale.
“They are trying to deny not only biology but also the body, which is based on the gender difference between men and women,” Rocella concluded. She’s right, and the outrage of LGBT activists indicates that they are concerned about this expression of common sense. In an increasing number of European countries, the transgender movement’s advance has been halted after a decade of nearly unimpeded progress and the colonization of wide swathes of the calendar. Perhaps Italy’s opting out is a sign of things to come.

Cities deliberately planned years ago to become denser, to force people to drive less in their cars by narrowing streets instead of widening them and building a lot more high-rise buildings with inadequate parking. It started in Ontario when the McGuinty Liberal government took over in 2003.

Alberta Premier Daniel Smith is concerned over a bilateral deal signed between Calgary and the Federal government to “blanket rezone” the city to allow higher density construction.
As outlined in the May 15th, 2024 Calgary CityNews post, “Danielle Smith ‘concerned’ after Calgary council approves blanket rezoning,” Smith says her main concern is that the city is only doing it to get housing money from the federal Trudeau government.
The funding has been offered to Canadian communities through a variety of public programs, most notably the Infrastructure Canada Smart Cities Challenge.
According to the post:
Smith’s UCP government tabled legislation last month that would prevent the federal government from entering into funding agreements with municipalities and other provincial entities, unless the province is consulted first.
“We want to be the advocate for all of our municipalities, so they don’t feel like they have to be pressured into passing policies,” Smith said.
Calgary isn’t the first Albertan city to rezone for Densification.
Edmonton, also prompted by increased funding from Ottawa went down the same path four years ago when, as outlined in the April 24th, 2024 Energy Mix post, “Public Engagement, ‘Tipping Points’ Drove Edmonton’s Landmark Zoning Overhaul,” the city set an “excellent precedent,” for communities across Canada.
The rezoning is at the centre of Edmonton city council plans to create a “fifteen minute community,” at least according to their 2022 promotional presentation on “Fostering 15-Minute Communities.”

The raid, which resulted in the search and seizure of numerous documents containing classified information, ultimately led to the filing of criminal charges against the former president. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, had previously entered a not-guilty plea to 37 charges related to an alleged failure to return classified material following the conclusion of his term in the White House.

In a resounding statement against soft-on-crime policies, voters in Multnomah County, Oregon, in the Portland area, decisively ousted incumbent District Attorney Mike Schmidt in Tuesday’s election.
Schmidt, who was backed by controversial billionaire George Soros, lost in a landslide to longtime prosecutor Nathan Vasquez.
Fox 12 called the race at approximately 9:30 pm local time, showing Vasquez leading with 58 percent of the vote compared to Schmidt’s 42 percent.
In Oregon’s non-partisan primary system, a candidate who secures over 50 percent of the vote is declared the winner of the election but will not take office until January 2025.
Nathan Vasquez, a veteran prosecutor with 24 years of experience in the District Attorney’s office, emerged victorious by tapping into the frustrations of Portland residents who have grown increasingly disillusioned with Schmidt’s tenure.
Vasquez began his career at the District Attorney’s office immediately after law school and worked his way up to a supervisory position, earning a reputation as a dedicated and effective prosecutor.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will host a campaign rally in the South Bronx neighborhood of New York on Thursday, targeting a Democrat stronghold as he tries to chip away at President Joe Biden's support among voters of color.
Recent polls suggest Trump is gaining ground with Black and Hispanic voters, groups that traditionally have supported Democrats. Trump's campaign sees an opportunity to grab enough of their votes to make the difference in battleground states in the Nov. 5 election.

That is not the case with New York, which Trump lost by 23 percentage points in 2020 and has no chance of winning this year, political analysts say. But a well-attended rally held in the city and covered by major TV networks could help project his message to Black and Hispanic voters nationwide.
"I think it's part of this larger narrative where he's trying to chip away at Biden's support amongst Black and Latino men, primarily," said Christina Greer, an associate professor of political science at Fordham University. "By him going to the South Bronx, he can say 'I'm talking to communities that Joe Biden is taking for granted.'"
Trump's focus on Black voters reflects both candidates' efforts to look beyond their base in what national polls show to be a close rematch. Some 40% of registered voters in a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll said they would vote for Biden if the election were held today, with the same share picking Trump.
Trump won the U.S. presidency in 2016 with less support from Black and Hispanic voters than any president in at least 40 years, then made up ground with both groups in the 2020 race.
In The New York Times/Siena College poll in March, Trump was selected by 23% of Black and 46% of Hispanic respondents in a one-on-one matchup with Biden. That is far higher than the 12% of Black and 32% of Hispanic voters Trump won in 2020, according to Edison Research exit polls.
Political analysts have attributed Biden's slipping support among non-white voters this election cycle in part to the outsized impact of inflation on people living paycheck to paycheck.
At Thursday's rally in Crotona Park, Trump is expected to focus on the economy, crime and immigration – three main planks of his campaign. He will highlight inflation under Biden in particular, his campaign said.
Roughly 77% of Bronx County residents are Black or Hispanic, according to 2022 census data. Biden won the county by 67.6 percentage points in 2020.
Biden has had a flurry of actions and events focused on bolstering support among African American voters, including giving the commencement address at Morehouse College, where he noted the billions in funding his administration has granted to historically Black colleges and universities. Biden also has singled out Trump and other Republicans for attacking programs aimed at improving diversity, equity and inclusion.
Trump's rally schedule has had to compete with his court appearances on criminal and civil charges. He is standing trial in New York on charges he falsified business records to hide a hush money payment to a porn star before the 2016 election. A verdict could come as early as next week.
In April, Trump made a campaign appearance at a convenience store in Harlem, New York, a predominantly Black neighborhood in Manhattan that has historically voted for Democrats.
While speaking to a Black conservative group in South Carolina before the state's primary election in February, Trump likened the four criminal cases against him to discrimination faced by Black Americans and said they had come to "embrace" his mug shots.
Trump's legal challenges, including federal charges over his alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss and his handling of classified documents, differ greatly from the historic inequities Black Americans have experienced in the criminal justice system.

Federal Appeals Judge Rules Parents Can't Opt Children Out of Sexualized LGBTQ Propaganda in Public Schools:
Anyone needing another reason to abandon all hope in a political savior, here's one: a federal judge has now ruled that Christian parents cannot opt their children out of LGBTQ lessons in public schools. For now, the ruling applies to Maryland parents, but unless the Supreme Court overturns this ruling, precedent will be set in every state.The curriculum being forced upon Kindergarten-aged children includes books and lessons promoting transgenderism, drag queens, and alternative family structures as normal and acceptable. These lessons are designed to introduce very young children to complex and controversial topics, often without parental knowledge or consent.
The dispute began in March when Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) approved 22 “LGBTQ+ inclusive texts” for grades pre-K through 8. Parents were informed that starting next year, “no notice will be given and no opt-outs tolerated because their kids must learn to be more ‘LGBTQ-Inclusive.’”The parents, represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, noted in their suit that “Maryland law and the School Board’s own policies require parental notice and opportunity to opt out of any instruction concerning ‘family life and human sexuality.’” However, on March 23, MCPS reversed its previous position of allowing parents to opt out by categorizing the LGBT-themed books as “inclusive” and not sexual in nature.
One of the books approved for pre-K, according to one report, entitled “Pride Puppy,” invites three- and four-year-olds to look for images of things they might find at a pride parade, including an “intersex [flag],” a “drag king” and “drag queen,” “leather,” “underwear,” and an image of a celebrated LGBTQ activist and sex worker, “Marsha P. Johnson.” Pre-K teachers assigned to read the book are provided a resource guide from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for “defining LGBTQ+ words for elementary students.”According to the report, another book, “Born Ready: The True Story of a Boy Named Penelope,” depicts a mother telling her daughter who expresses interest in being a boy that “today you’re my teacher.”
The lawsuit notes that the book “advocates a child-knows-best approach to gender transitioning,” telling students that a decision to transition doesn’t have to “make sense” and that students are the best “teacher” on such matters, not parents or other adults.
This decision, handed down by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, is a reminder that the world's system is increasingly antagonistic toward Christians. Despite the efforts of thousands of parents and the glaring superciliousness of the ruling, the court has determined that parents have no right to shield their children from indoctrination that conflicts with their religious beliefs. This is not merely a local skirmish but a broader battle that reveals the relentless encroachment of secular creeds into the most sacred territories of faith and family.
Judge G. Steven Agee's decision, which dismissed the parents' claims for "lack of evidence," is spellbinding in its disregard for religious liberty. The federal lawsuit, brought forth by a coalition of Christian and Muslim parents, sought to protect their children from being force-fed a curriculum that promotes ideas fundamentally opposed to their faith.
Yet, the court's response was a resounding endorsement of the very doctrines these parents find objectionable.

Over the past decade, if not longer, the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) has been rocked by numerous scandals stemming from its awful treatment of veterans.
Now, the scandal-plagued government agency has another scandal on its hands thanks to its own woke programs that discriminate against American veterans who happen to be white.
The Washington Free Beacon found that at least four VA training programs and workshops specifically exclude white veterans in Michigan, Minnesota, California, and Ohio.
The VA in Battle Creek, Michigan offers a “Race-Based Stress/Trauma and Empowerment” program that is a “weekly group, tailored to our Veterans of color, to address race-based stress and trauma in a safe and validating environment.”
Similarly, the VA in Palo Alto, California has a “10-week group to explore [the] impact of racism on your well-being” for “Women Veterans of color.”
President Joe Biden issued an executive order in 2021 that made adopting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training programs a priority for government agencies.
The VA is wasting its time and resources on woke indoctrination that discriminates against veterans who are suffering from the VA’s long wait times and poor care.
It also raises disturbing questions where else the VA is willing to discriminate against veterans.
VA official Shawn Liu told the VA’s Ending Veteran Homelessness podcast that the programs started as a result of Biden’s executive order, and dismissed pushback from within the Department by claiming that “treating everybody the same might not be enough for some.”
University of San Diego law professor and U.S. Commission on Civil Rights member Gail Heriot told the Free Beacon that programs were almost certainly illegal.
“It seems like every time you turn around there’s another race-exclusive government program of dubious constitutionality and legality,” Heriot said. “Race exclusivity should raise red flags. Yet for the past four years, we’ve been seeing more and more of this kind of thing.”
Matt Gaetz calls for hearings on woke programs at the VA
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) called for Congressional hearings on the DEI programs at the VA after the explosive report from the Free Beacon.
He wrote a letter to House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Rep. Michael Bost (R-IL) in which he asked for a hearing, as well as another letter to VA Secretary Denis McDonough for more information about the programs.
“I am writing to you today to request an oversight hearing by your Committee into a number of outrageous, race-based ‘support’ groups operating at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs,” Gaetz wrote. “As we both know, the VA is tasked with the critical mission of providing support to American veterans, and I believe that the attached Washington Free Beacon article will shock you.”
“These programs appear to be popping up nationwide, and appear on the official VA website, indicating a serious policy and oversight problem at the VA,” Gaetz continued. “No federal resources, let alone sponsorship by the agency itself, should be given to these discriminatory programs.”

God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, has arranged the earth, together with its climate, to be stable, self-correcting, and able to handle billions of people. Furthermore, God remains active in the 'management' of the earth and its climate for the benefit of its inhabitants.
(LifeSiteNews) — The discussion on climate has been primarily from a fact-based or scientific perspective. But what about a theological perspective? Might God actually have something to say about the climate He made? Hubris is certainly a danger in trying to determine God’s opinion, but an attempt to discern His thoughts on this important subject seems worth the risk. Hopefully, theological truth will be presented, and more discussion will be generated about God’s view of His climate.
The Bible will be the main source of reference. We will explore seven basic theological premises. This article is not designed to be an in-depth theological treatise and will, therefore, keep the discussion on a basic level. To be clear, the author is not a professional theologian, but one who does believe in the truths contained in the Bible.
Obviously, there has been a great deal of negative bias generated by the climate issue, and bad news gets more publicity. Hopefully, readers will be encouraged by our optimistic findings. I say “our” because I received some valuable outside input.
Why would an investment firm care about climate? Our corporate interest on this subject began about two years ago when we as an investment firm began to explore in greater depth the effects of CO2 on climate as the result of fossil fuels. We had to answer the question, “Should a socially responsible investment firm be using traditional oil and gas energy stocks for our investment portfolios?” We did a considerable amount of fact-based research and concluded that the CO2 generated by fossil fuels was not a problem for the climate. But the research did generate some additional theological considerations which eventually led to this article.
Seven Theological Premises. Each of the following seven premises contain a Bible verse and a brief conclusion. Each premise is brief in order to fit more easily as a separate tweet on Twitter.
Premise #1 – Lasting Foundations. “He established the earth upon its foundations, so that it will not totter forever and ever.” Psalms 104:5
God built the earth, including its climate, to last for a LONG time.
Premise #2 – What God created was good. “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” Genesis 1: 31
God made CO2 with valuable attributes including being an essential fuel for the green plants we enjoy and those that feed us.
Premise #3 – Room for billions. “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth” -Genesis 1:22
If a loving God wanted to fill the earth with people, surely He would have created a climate that could handle billions. He did.
Premise #4 – The balance of CO2 and O2. “Do you know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge?” -Job 37:16
People, animals, and fossil fuels use O2 and emit CO2. Plants use CO2 and emit O2. What an amazing auto-balancing system!
Premise #5 – Oceans have boundaries. “For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, an eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it. Though the waves toss, … though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.” Jeremiah 5:22
God will not allow the sea to flood our coast lands.
Premise #6 – God gave us fossil fuels. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.” James 1:17
Did God give America a HUGE amount of oil and gas and tell us not to use it? Inconceivable!
Premise #7 – God remains active. “He causes the grass to grow for the cattle and vegetation for the labor of man, so that he may bring forth food from the earth and wine which makes man’s heart glad.” Psalm 104:15-16
God remains actively working to keep our climate healthy.
Conclusion God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, has arranged the earth, together with its climate, to be stable, self-correcting, and able to handle billions of people. Furthermore, God remains active in the “management” of the earth and its climate for the benefit of its inhabitants. Of course, man has an important responsibility, but it should be comforting to know that an all-powerful, all-loving God is actively overseeing His creation. Therefore, from a theological perspective, there is great hope for our climate.

Lost in the news over the weekend about the death of Iran’s president and the ICC request for arrest warrants is another potentially huge story in Israel: Benjamin Netanyahu’s War Cabinet is beginning to turn against him.
Two members of this cabinet are calling for Netanyahu to deliver a plan for the administration of Gaza after the war:
On Saturday, Benny Gantz, a member of the War Cabinet and Netanyahu’s main political rival, said he would leave the government on June 8 if it did not formulate a new war plan including an international, Arab and Palestinian administration to handle civilian affairs in Gaza.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, the third member of the Cabinet, has also called for a plan for Palestinian administration, and said in a speech this week that he wouldn’t agree to Israel governing Gaza itself.
Keep in mind there are only three members of the War Cabinet, plus Netanyahu. It is a very big deal that two of the members—Gallant and Gantz—are publicly saying Netanyahu is failing as a leader, and that he has been at war for more than seven months without a good strategy.
The United States is also putting pressure on Netanyahu, asking for a “revitalized Palestinian Authority to govern Gaza with assistance from Saudi Arabia and other Arab states,” moving toward an eventual two-state solution.

Judge Merchan Shuts Down Key Trump Witness

The defense has had the case for only two days, but it seemed far more eventful than just about everything we had seen from prosecutors.
On Tuesday, the defense rested its case after Judge Merchan refused to allow a key Trump witness to testify to the full scope of what the defense had hoped.

Defense Takes Over in Hush-money Case
The prosecution finished up its case by calling former Donald Trump fixer Michael Cohen to the stand. For the first two days, he was like Michael Avenatti during the early days of the Stormy Daniels complaint… the media could not get enough of him. That all ended when defense attorney Todd Blanche shredded Cohen, culminating in the big reveal that Cohen had embezzled money from the Trump Organization.
After the prosecution rested, the defense called Bob Costello, the former legal adviser for Michael Cohen, who was released from his NDA. Costello got under Judge Merchan’s skin for mumbling under his breath after Merchan regularly sustained objections by the prosecution during his testimony. Merchan eventually ordered the courtroom cleared so he could lecture Costello on courtroom etiquette.
Trump’s defense team then tried to get Bradley Smith on the stand, who Trump touted as an expert on election law. Judge Merchan, however, had other ideas.
Merchan Denies Witness
When the defense announced that it wanted to call Bradley Smith, a former commissioner of the Federal Election Commission, Judge Merchan immediately put the clamps down on him. Merchan did not want this to turn into a trial of the 2020 election outcome, so he put significant restrictions on the scope of Smith's testimony, so Smith was pulled as a witness. Smith explained:
"Judge Merchan has so restricted my testimony that defense has decided not to call me. Now, it’s elementary that the judge instructs the jury on the law, so I understand his reluctance.
"But the Federal Election Campaign Act is very complex. Even Antonin Scalia – a pretty smart guy, even you hate him – once said ‘this [campaign finance] law is so intricate that I can’t figure it out.’ Picture a jury in a product liability case trying to figure out if a complex machine was negligently designed, based only on a boilerplate recitation of the general definition of ‘negligence.’ They’d be lost without knowing technology & industry norms.”
As the day wrapped up, Trump was very confident that his team had won this case, telling the media that the defense would be resting soon, which it did by the end of the day. This led to the legal pundits breaking down everything that had happened over the last two days, and the reviews were not flattering for Merchan. For instance, former United States Attorney Brett Tolman stated:
“I will tell you, judges, every now and then you run across the judge that has some insecurity, ego driven.
“They control the courtroom. If they’re ever challenged, it’s interesting to see their reaction. And here I think he has something personally at stake in wanting to show that he’s running a good trial, but more than that, I think he wants to see Donald Trump convicted. So then you add all that up and look, I have never seen an objection sustained so quickly.”
He also commented on the apparent bias of Merchan for the prosecution when Costello was on the stand, explaining:
“You didn’t even get the question out multiple times and the objection was sustained.
“That’s why Costello said ‘jeez’ audibly in the courtroom because you do not see that. And practicing in courtrooms, what you see is the opposite, judges attempting to show a good bench demeanor and appropriateness and a decorum about them. That was all lost here. The jury saw most of that and it will be interesting what their takeaway is.”
Analysis
Even though I believe the jury is probably slanted against Trump, I just have a hard time believing that all 12 jurors can come back with a guilty verdict, given how this case was presented. But, as I have stated before, so much went wrong in this case for the prosecution that I just don’t see how the verdict could ever hold up under appeal. This will not be the case that sends Trump to prison… of that, I am sure.
