AG Garland Names Special Counsel to Probe Biden's Handling of Documents:

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday named a special counsel to investigate whether President Joe Biden improperly handled sensitive government documents, setting up a parallel inquiry to an ongoing probe of former President Donald Trump.

The inquiry, to be led by Robert Hur, could cast a shadow over the Democrat president's expected run for reelection in 2024.

Garland said Hur, who was the top federal prosecutor in Maryland under Trump, would act as a quasi-independent prosecutor to head an effort to determine whether classified records stemming from Biden's time as vice president had been improperly stored at his residence in Delaware and a think tank in Washington.

Hur also issued a statement Thursday, saying: "I will conduct the assigned investigation with fair, impartial, and dispassionate judgment. I intend to follow the facts swiftly and thoroughly, without fear or favor, and will honor the trust placed in me to perform this service."

The news means that the two likely 2024 election rivals now face inquiries from special prosecutors, who are typically appointed to politically sensitive cases to ensure a degree of independence from Justice Department leadership.

One distinction between the two cases is that Biden's attorneys said they turned the papers over when they located them, while Trump resisted until an August FBI search, leading to questions of whether he or his staff obstructed the investigation.

Garland, in an appearance at the Justice Department, said he decided a special counsel was necessary after an initial investigation conducted by John Lausch, the top federal prosecutor in the Chicago region who was appointed by Trump in 2017. Garland said that "the extraordinary circumstances here require the appointment of a special counsel." [News Max]



White House:

Classified Documents Found in Biden's Garage:

Documents with classified markings from President Joe Biden's time as vice president were found at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, the White House said Thursday, days after it was disclosed that sensitive documents were also found at the office of his former Washington institute.

Richard Sauber, a special counsel to the president, said after the initial documents were found by Biden's personal lawyers, they examined other locations where records might have been shipped after Biden left the vice presidency in 2017.

Sauber said a “small number” of documents with classified markings were found in a storage space in Biden's garage in Wilmington, with one document being located in an adjacent room. No documents were found in the Bidens' other Delaware home, in Rehoboth Beach.

The White House did not say when the subsequent search began or when the additional documents were found, only that the search was completed on Wednesday evening.

Sauber said the Department of Justice was “immediately notified” after the documents were located and that department lawyers took custody of the records.

Regardless of the Justice Department review, the revelation that Biden potentially mishandled classified or presidential records is proving to be a political headache for Biden, who called former President Donald Trump “irresponsible” for keeping hundreds of such records at his private club in Florida.

Earlier this week, the White House confirmed that the department was reviewing “a small number of documents with classified markings” found at the Washington office.

Biden’s lawyers had discovered the material at the offices of the Penn Biden Center and then immediately called the National Archives about the discovery, the White House said. Biden kept an office there after he left the vice presidency in 2017 until shortly before he launched his Democratic presidential campaign in 2019. [News Max]

Saskatchewan First Nation details plan of how it will test for unmarked graves at former residential school site:

A Saskatchewan First Nation that announced it had discovered hundreds of subterranean “anomalies” during a search for unmarked graves is the first in almost two years of such discoveries in Canada to offer a clear blueprint to determine what definitively lies underground.

With the help of ground-penetrating radar, the Star Blanket Cree Nation said it found a child’s jawbone on the surface and more than 2,000 underground abnormalities at the site of a former residential school. Since the radar can’t differentiate human remains from other soil disturbances, the First Nation said it plans to deploy cutting-edge DNA identification techniques in the coming months to determine what, or who, lies beneath.

Its plan could provide a template for other communities searching for unmarked graves across the country.

OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) – Canada’s federal government is looking at potentially hiring “third parties” to execute its much-panned gun buyback scheme after four provinces said they would not cooperate in taking away legally acquired firearms.

Per the Canadian Press, Canada’s Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino recently said that the federal government will take the time “necessary to get it [the gun buyback] right.”

He also said the federal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is looking at a “variety of options” to carry out its gun buyback program, hinting that due to provincial government opposition he might use other “options.”

“It’s going to involve a number of critical stakeholders and partners, including law enforcement,” said Mendicino.

“But we’re also working with other levels of government. We’re working with industry leaders; we’re working with potential third parties. So, we are exploring all of these options.”

A total of five Canadian jurisdictions – four provinces and one territory – have announced their opposition to Trudeau’s federal buyback schemes.

The governments of Alberta and Saskatchewan have gone as far as introducing legislation that will ensure their governments alone are responsible for enforcing federal gun laws. 


Alberta Justice Minister Tyler Shandro said right before Christmas that firearms enforcement in his province is “our constitutional jurisdiction, and this is a choice that we get to make.”

“It’s not a negotiation with the federal government,” he added.

As late as October of last year, Mendicino claimed he was still looking at getting provincial government help to enforce the gun buyback scheme, noting that it was his “plan A.”

Critics have long blasted Trudeau’s gun grab efforts, with most of the recent ire being directed at his government’s much-opposed Bill C-21.

Much of this controversy arose because Bill C-21 was initially introduced by the Trudeau government under the guise of restricting handgun sales, and the Trudeau government only added certain hunting rifles to the list of banned firearms under C-21 after the debate period of the bill had concluded.

The last-minute additions were blasted by Indigenous Canadians, hunters, farmers, and opposition MPs as a crass attempt to try and ban most guns and take them away from their legal owners.

After initially denying his bill would impact hunters, Trudeau last month admitted that C-21 would indeed ban certain types of hunting rifles.

Trudeau’s gun control efforts began immediately following a deadly mass shooting in Nova Scotia in May 2020, in which his government banned over 1,500 “military-style assault firearms” with a plan to begin buying them back from owners.

If the ban is enforced, legal gun owners in possession of the federally-regulated Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) would be barred from buying, selling, transporting, and even importing a slew of guns the government has categorized as “assault-style” rifles.

While the Trudeau government is standing by the controversial bill, C-21 is not without backlash, and has even been placed on hold until well into 2023 after pushback from opposition MPs. [Life Site News]

42 colleges and universities paid to combat "misinformation" by BidenFoundation:

SUMMARY

· National Science Foundation (NSF) spent $38.8 million on government grants and contracts to combat “misinformation” since the start of the Biden administration.

· 64 NSF grants totaling $31.8 million were given to 42 different colleges and universities to research the science of stopping viral ideas.

· Some grants explicitly target “populist politicians” and “populist communications” to scientifically determine ”how best to counter populist narratives.”

When most people think of the National Science Foundation (NSF), they think about the US government investing tax dollars in grand advancements in mathematics, aerospace and engineering.

But under the Biden administration, the fastest-growing field of NSF grant funding appears to be the science of censorship.

At Foundation for Freedom Online, we previously reported the strange fact that the exact two universities who partnered with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to censor the 2020 election received a $3 million joint grant from the National Science Foundation just months after the election ended.

Neither of those two academic “disinfo labs” were taxpayer-funded before the 2020 election. But then, after an election where in effect they exclusively censored the social media opposition of the current administration, suddenly the current administration started hooking them up with government grants.

After that revelation, we investigated every NSF grant issued in 2021 and 2022 relating to social media “misinformation” or “disinformation.” Our goal was to determine the extent to which NSF is spending US tax dollars on censoring US taxpayers.

Our findings were profoundly disturbing.

Since the start of 2021, NSF has issued 64 government grants on the science of “countering” social media “mis/disinformation,” totaling $31.8 million. It has also issued two government grants, totaling $7 million. That brings a total of NSF-funded scientific censorship research to $38.8 million since the start of the Biden administration.

In just two years, those 64 government censorship grants were spread across 42 different colleges and universities. This incredible range of recipients covers every level of the country’s higher education institutions, both regionally and in terms of prestige.

The most highly NSF-funded “Misinformation/Disinformation” grantee universities are:

  • State University of New York (SUNY) — 4 unique grants, cumulatively totaling $4.22 million

  • George Washington University – 4 unique grants, cumulatively totaling $4 million.

  • University of Wisconsin – 3 unique grants, cumulatively totaling $3.83 million

  • University of Washington – 3 unique grants, cumulatively totaling $3.52 million

It is notable that #4 on that above list is University of Washington (UW), which is one of the two institutions that DHS worked directly with — and chose as a formal partner — to censor the 2020 election.
